What to pay attention to when installing a canopy?

More and more use is being made of the backyard and in particular the roof. A canopy makes it possible to use the garden during bad weather conditions. However, it is not clear to everyone what they should pay attention to when installing a canopy, does this also apply to you? The following tips will help you know exactly what to pay attention to when installing a canopy.

Types of roofs

A canopy is a real eye-catcher in the backyard. But which canopy fits best in your backyard? A wooden roof is often chosen and must serve as protection against wind, rain and bright sun. There are different types, sizes and colors of canopy. You have canopies that fit almost any garden, but also custom canopies. The most common roofs are verandas. The reason for this is that these are easy to install and it gives many people a real holiday feeling. The veranda can be placed against the house but also somewhere in the middle of the garden. We are talking about a barn. Many people also have the well-known pergola in their backyard. This is a relatively cheap canopy and can be provided with plants such as ivy or a stretched cloth. A pergola creates a cozy atmosphere in the garden. You also have open canopies and canopies with glass walls. These walls also make it possible to enjoy the canopy in the winter. With any roof you can choose to have a flat roof or a pointed roof.

The position of the sun

First of all, it is important to take the position of the sun into account. Why? Because the position of the sun ensures that the canopy can be used correctly. If the canopy is positioned incorrectly, you may not be able to use the canopy as much in the evening. So you have to take into account when you want to sit in the sun, in the morning or in the evening. Most people choose to let the sun shine into the canopy in the evening. But have you already thought about the roof of the canopy? For a terrace where the sun shines brightly, milky white polycarbonate sheets are best suited. These plates provide sun protection but still allow light to pass through. The disadvantage of these plates is that you cannot see through them and therefore cannot look at the stars or clouds. If you would like to do this, we recommend that you choose heat-resistant sheets in clear polycarbonate. These plates provide 4 degrees of cooling under the canopy and make it possible to look at the stars or clouds.

The drainage of the roof

When purchasing and installing the canopy, it is extremely important to also take the drainage of the canopy into account. It is possible that the roof will have to process quite a bit of rainwater over time and you do not want the water to remain on the roof. It is therefore necessary to ensure good drainage of the canopy. And you want to do this in a neat manner so that you can also do other things with the water, such as watering plants in the garden. To ensure good drainage of the canopy, you should place the canopy at a slope of 5% to 10%. This slope makes it possible to direct all the water to one side. You can then move on to the downspout. By using a rain pipe you can ensure that all the water is drained away properly. For example, you can choose to place a barrel under the drainpipe that collects the rainwater so that you can also do other things with the water. You can also choose to connect the rain pipe to the sewerage system and in this way ensure that you no longer have to worry about it.

Take taxes into account

Before you want to install a canopy, it is important to take the wind loads and the strength of the canopy into account. Unfortunately, it often happens that canopies are dimensioned incorrectly. This will reduce the lifespan of the covering in question. In addition, it is important to take autumn and the load of any rain and snow into account. When it snows in winter, the snow carries a lot of weight. So make sure that the canopy consists of thick, wide beams so that it does not fall over with the first snowfall.

Choose sustainable materials

In recent years, sustainability has become an increasingly important factor in our lives. This is because it is extremely important to be sustainable and to live sustainably. Unfortunately, it is not yet entirely clear to everyone what sustainability actually is. The sustainability of a material is determined by the lifespan of a material compared to carbon dioxide emissions. It is therefore better and more environmentally conscious to choose materials with a long lifespan. This means you have to do less maintenance on the roof yourself. In addition, this is also much better for the environment. It is also wise to look at the different quality marks of the materials.

And you can go for sustainability not only when choosing the material for the frame. You can also choose to use a sustainable roof. But what exactly does that mean? Well, a sustainable roof consists of all succulents and this offers many advantages. In this way, the succulents absorb nitrogen and particulate matter. These are important nature problems in urban areas. A green roof is therefore better for our health and removes bad substances from the air. But the succulents have much more to offer. This makes them extremely useful for collecting water. Because the plants collect the water, not everything is discharged to the sewer and the pressure on the sewer is reduced. A green roof can provide more cooling under the roof. It provides insulation, which keeps it nice and cool in the summer and warmer in the winter.
